The thermal conductivity measuring techniques can broadly be divided into two categories: Steady state techniques and Transient techniques. In this paper the basic principles of transient techniques are discussed. Apparatus used and results obtained from the techniques have been reproduced in this paper. The new techniques such as flash method, laser-flash method, AC calorimetric, hot wire technique and 3 omega techniques have been explained. These techniques have been selected on the basis of their use in the recent technology explosion era.
