Cost-effectiveness of overhead irrigation of vegetables cultivated the vicinity of Bydgoszcz

The present paper concerns the results of 24 one-year field experiments on sprinkler irrigation of 7 species of vegetable crops, carried out from 1975 to 1998 in the vicinity of Bydgoszcz. Mean irrigation effectiveness was, as follows: 200 percent - carrot, 176 percent red beet, 119 percent - snap bean, 39 percent - cucumber, 27 percent - zuccini and 15 percent - tomato. The irrigation of squash and zuccini (agricultural income about 13000 zl/ha) as well as carrot (about 7000 zl/ha) appeared most cost-effective.
