Yielding and fruit quality of some parthenocarpic cucumber cultivars grown under direct cover and low tunnel protection

The three-year experiment concerned the yielding and fruit quality of three parthenocarpis cultivars grown in the open field, under nonwoven PP cover and in PE tunnel. The most abundant vegetative growth was observed with plants in the tunnel where the thermal conditions were best. All tested cultivars under that cover gave the highest early and total marketable yield. Under nonwoven PP the yield was lower but many times exceeded the one in the open. In respect of fruit chemical composition no significant differences between the tested cultivars were found. A tendency to lower dry weight and sugar content in tunnels was observed
