Influence of surface application of vermicompost and calcium on the yield and quality of sugar beet roots

In the years 1992-96 the influence of vermicompost applied at rate of 6 t/ha on the yield and some qualitative properties of sugar beet roots was investigated. Vermicompost was applied on the soil surface before and after sowing of sugar beet. Vermicompost increased the yield of roots and sugar, as well as enhanced the content of sugar in the roots when applied with microelement fertilizer. Vermicompost applied before sowing favoured plant emergence and decreased the weed infestation
