[Results of using Tricogramma cacoeciae March. against the carpophagous generation of Prays oleae (Bern.) in Tras-os-Montes [Portugal]]

The effectiveness of inundative releases of Trichogramma cacoeciae March. in controlling eggs of the carpophagous generation of Prays oleae (Bern.) was tested during 1997, in an olive grove, near Mirandela (northeastern Portugal). Five treatments and one control were used during the course of the study. The parasitism obtained varied from 2,2%, in the control, to 46,9%, in the treatment where 800 000 trichogramma per hectare were released. The corresponding figures for the reduction in the percentage of fruits infested by yhe pest were 2,2% and 46,2%. From theses results it appears that the use of inundative releases of T. cacoeciae March. possess potential for olive protection against the eggs of the carpophagous generation of P. oleae in northeastern Portugal

Com o objectivo de avaliar a eficacia da realizacao de largadas inundativas de T. cacoeciae na luta contra a geracao carpofaga de P. oleae em Tras-os-Montes, realizou-se em 1997 um ensaio num olival situado proximo de Mirandela. Neste ensaio foram estudadas quatro densidades do parasitoide em comparacao com uma testemunha. O parasitismo obtido variou entre 2,2% na testemunha e 46,9% na modalidade onde se libertaram 800 000 tricogramas por hectare, com uma reducao na taxa de infestacao dos frutos, de respectivamente, 2,2% e 46,2%. Os resultados obtidos sugerem, assim, que o uso de largadas inundativas de T. cacoeciae oferece boas possibilidades na luta contra a geracao carpofaga de P. oleae na regiao em estudo
