The influence of long-term grassing with grass monocultures (Festuca rubra, Festuca ovina, Poa pratensis) and with their mixtures was studied for ground cover and some soil characteristics. Over 7 years the mixture of Ferota (F. rubra) + Taborska (F. rubra) + Jana (F. ovina) was best after grassing with grass cover dominance 70-95% in the 3rd to 7th year. Humus content at a depth of 0.3 m increased from 2.05% to 2.66%, Cox content from 11.9 to 15.43 g/kg soil and a C : N ratio widened from 5.61 to 7.56 after grassing in comparison with bare soil. Frequent passing of machinery across the grass area has not caused the expressive changes in soil physical characteristics
