In the paper, a review of the iodine deficiency symptoms in ruminants, pigs and their offsprings is presented. Also the risk of occurrence of iodine deficiency in our mild endemic goitrogenic areas is described if feedstuffs of local production are fed to the animals without incorporation of supplemental iodine to the feed ration. Important goitrogenic feedstuff plants and anthropogenic goitrogens, including water born goitrogens, are listed and the significance of relationship between iodine intake and goitrogen intake is considered. Forms of used iodine compounds for iodine supplementation are mentioned
