Study on population dynamics of Indian mackerels (Rastrelliger kanagurta Cuvier, 1816) caugth by the luring purse seine in the Gulf of Thailand during 1987-1994 based on the length frequencies distribution datas and fishery statistics was conducted. The results from this study were described as follow: For the growth parameters; L infinity =24.92 cm, W infinity =175.178 grams, K=0.202 per month, and t0 = -0.0033 month. For the mortality parameters; the total (Z), natural (M), and fishing (F) mortality were 1.015, 0.285, and 0.73 per month, respectively. The present fisheries status; the yield per recruitment = 18.8976 grams and the optimum fishing mortality = 0.5 per month. The length at first capture = 10.35 cm and the critical length = 16.95 cm, with these two sizes, the optimum mesh size of the net were 3.75 and 4 cm, respectively. To assess the maximum sustained yield, using both two principle models, the values from Scheafer (1957) and Fox (1970) model were 27,714.19 and 39,448.62 tons, respectively. From this study, the situation of the Indian mackerels fisheries as determined by the yield per recruitment and sustained yield analysis indicated that, in the Gulf of Thailand, this resource is nowaday overfishing.
