Pathogenicity of Colletotrichum capsici on chilli fruits and its transmission from diseased fruits to seeds and seedlings
1997
Boonyawadee Chirawut
Symptomless yellow chilli fruits and red chilli friuts collected from wholesale market "Pak Klong Talad" during September - November 1994 and September - November 1995 were infected by Colletotrichum capsici and C. gloeosporioides in different levels. C. capsici was predominant organism and the highest incidence of C. capsici was found on red chilli. Five isolated of C. capsici optained from Karnchanaburi (RC1), Nakhon Si Thammarat (RC2), Prachuap Khiri Khan (RC3), Ratchaburi (RC7) and Nakhon Sawan (RC12) were similar in morphological characteristic. The highest virulent isolate was C. capsici from Prachuap Khiri Khan province (RC3). Inoculation chilli fruit with spore of C. capsici at concentration of 2.0 * 10*[6), 4.1 * 10*[6), 6.1 * 10*[6), and 8.2 * 10*[6) spores/square cm show no different in disease severity. Five chilli cultivars including Bangchang, Yellow, Huaysithon, Chinda and Hua-raei were tested on their suceptibility to C. capsici. The highest disease severity was on Bangchang cultivar. When seed transmission of C. capsici at 5 levels on chilli fruits observed it showed that relationship between disease severity levels and infected seed (total seed infection and internal seed infection) and infected seedling.
