Researches on the germination of carob seeds with different methods

The germination percentages of carob seeds were determined with different methods in order to search the possibility of carob production from seed. The carob seeds were immediately extracted from the harvested fruits and then they were placed in water at room temperature (20+2 or 20-2 deg C ) and in warm water (40 deg C) or scarified with H2SO4 or stratified in a humidified sterile sand. Then, the seeds were untertaken the germination tests and the best methods for carob seed germination was determined. The highest germination percentages could be obtained. 15 days later by the method of placing the seeds in warm water for 180 min. or in H2SO4 for 45 min
