Effects of organic waste materials on nitrogen nutrition were investigated in Lop Buri calcareous paddy soil. The organic waste materials examined were : Humus, glutamic acid mother liquor (GML) from two factories (GML1 and GML2) and chicken manure (Chm). Urea and (NH4)2SO4 chemical fertilizers, were also studied in comparision. The investigations were conducted in laboratory and pot experiments. GML significantly increased NH4+- content in Lop Buri soil. NH4+- N content in Lop Buri soil amended with the waste materials decreased in the following order : GML Humus Chm. The effectiveness of GML (GML1 and GML2) in increasing the NH4+- content in the soil and grain yield of rice plant in Lop Buri soil was the same as that of (NH4)2SO4 but higher than that of urea. Growth, yield and total N uptake of rice plants grown in Lop Buri paddy soil amended with GML were higher than those of rice plants grown in these soil amended with Humus and Chm.
