Community structure and feeding types of free-living marine nematodes in shrimp ponds in Khung Kraben Bay, Chantaburi province, were examined for 1 crop of shrimp culture from May 1992 to January 1993. Totally, 33 genera in 17 families of menatodes were found in the study. The dominant genera were Theristus, Daptonema, Diplolaimella and Microlaimus. At each sampling station, species diversity fo nematodes was low ranging from 2 to 17 genera. Fauna densities were significantly different relative to sampling times. The fauna density decreased during the South West Monsoon from August to October and then it gradually increased after the monsoon. Fluctuation of fauna density showed some correlation with organic matter in the sediment and granulometric character. However, it seemed that the influence on the fauna community mostly came from the culture activities more than from other factors. Moreover, from the present study, the results suggested that various species of Theristus, Microlaimus and Paracyatholaimus tended to be indicators of high organic load. However, further studies are essential for this conclusion.
