Efficient use of phosphorus fertilization in acid tropical soils
1985
Arca, Manuel (Instituto Nacional de Investigacion y Promocion Agropecuaria (INIPA), Lima (Peru))
Acid soils of the tropics are often very deficient in phosphorus, and those with loamy or clayey topsoil textures often fix large quantities of P. There is a need to increase the efficiency of fertilizer-P utilization. This paper reviews the prospects of doing so by (1) improvements in soil test interpretations, (2) utilization of phosphate rocks either in their natural state or with partial acidulation, (3) selecting the most appropriate rates and methods of application, (4) the use of lime to increase P availability, and (5) the enhancement of mycorrhizal associations.
