Resistance to Aspergillus flavus infection in peanut III. Relationship between calcium potassium and phosphorus contents in seed pericarp and cultivar resistance

It was suggested elsewhere that calcium, potassium and phosphorus contents in seed pericarp were major factors effecting resistant ability to Aspergillus flavus infection in peanut. In this study, in contrast that, the correlation coefficient values between those element contents in pericarp and the percentages of infected seeds by A. flavus were not statistically significance. Suggestion could be made that: (1) Neither Ca, K nor P have influence at all refer to the resistant ability, In fact, there are either some other elements or chemicals produced in seed pericarp controlling such the character. (2) The content levels were not high enough (only 2.50 percent Ca, 0.425 percent K and 0.165 percent P were defected). Therefore, it should be considered that could these peanut cultivars exhibit its resistant ability to A. flavus infection would the content level in seed pericarp is increased e.g. higher than 2.50 percent for calcium.
