Basic characters of the plum vegetative rootstocks created on the basic of autochthonous genetic material P. [Prunus] domestica L., and P. [Prunus] cerasifera Ehrh.

Based on the longterm studies on the vegetative abilities of domestic plums from the areas of central Serbia (F.R. Yugoslavia) and north Bosnia (Bosnia and Herzegovina), 5 vegetative rootstocks have been selected. The 6/209 selection has been obtained on the basis of Prunus cerasifera Ehrh. and those of 5/7, 3/3, 4/2 and 2/53 on the basis of Prunus domestica L. The 2/53 selection can be assessed as a poorly vigorous, and, the remaining ones as moderately vigorous. All the selected rootstocks have been found to form numerous roots, of an average length more than 10 cm, with a remarkably high zone of rooting and an index of rooting (R/TS) ranging from 4.19 to 10.29 g. Further studies on the relationship between these rootstocks and the plum cv. are under way, and are related to the effect the selected rootstocks may have on the basic parameters of the growth and yield of Cacanska Rodna.
