A network of small-plot trials was established in 1998 for the purpose of selecting hybrids for next year's sowings. The highest average seed yield was recorded in the Kovin location (Yugoslavia), while the Pancevo site (Yugoslavia) had the highest average seed oil content. Kovin also had the highest average oil yield per hectare. Hybrids used in large-scale production proved highly productive in terms of seed yield and oil yield. The new hybrids NS-H-492 and NS-H-410 have been achieving increasingly impressive results as well. Based on the results achieved during the 1993-1998 period, the following hybrids are recommended for sowing in 1999: NS-H-111, Velja, NS-H-43, NS-H-45, and NS-H-17. Dukat and NS-H-15 are recommended for late sowings (May-early June). In the region of Backa (Yugoslavia), where a new race of broomrape has been reported, the bybrid Bacvanin should be grown.
