The resistance appeared as a problem with the introduction of selective systemic fungicides, as a consequence of intensive and irrational application. The genetic control of resistance is extrachromosomal or chromosomal. Upon genetic control and mode of action, the fungicides are grouped as: fungicides of low, medium and high risk. Intensity of selection depends on number of applications versus reproductive cycles of pathogen, fungicide persistence and differences in sensitivity of wild type and mutant. The prediction, prevention and the methods of overcoming the resistance are organized at international level by GIFAP Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC). The measures of monitoring and strategies to combat the resistance to high risk fungicides and pathogens of high risk level are suggested. The consequences of resistance and social-economic implications to different society groups and necessity for legislation in plant protection undertaking rational strategies are underlined.
