Since antiquity, the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria has been considered as one of the main plagues of humanity. During its gregarious phase its damage extends from the west coast of Africa over to India. The migratory locust Locusta migratoria is as well gregarious and causes considerable damage in African and in Asian countries. In order to use control methods other than chemical ones against these two pests, trials are in progress on the efficiency of entomopathogenous fungi, mainly Beauveria bassiana. The efficacy of conidia of B. bassiana (Balsamo) was tested in the laboratory against: L. migratoria and S. gregaria with doses of 100000 spores per ml and 100 spores per ml sprayed on adults and larvae. Our results indicate the good efficacy of Beauveria bassiana. Schistocerca gregaria was more susceptible than Locusta migratoria.
