Ceratitis capitata caused enormous damage on clementines in Gharb region of Morocco. Its control needs ten treatments per year. The present study was carried out at El Menzeh experimental station (Kenitra, Morocco), in two plots in 1998. Reasoned control was applied in one orchard, and chemical control in the other (check). The objectives were to trap pest adults and to evaluate localised bait spray of the insect. Preliminary results showed that, in our conditions, adults fly during the whole year, with high activity in autumn. Sexual trap ®MaghrebMed¯ was the most practical technique for insect surveys. The threshold of 25 adults/trap/week and the control of fruit infestation reduced infestation level to less than 3 and 1/ at harvest in the first orchard and in the check, respectively. Two bait sprays were sufficient to control the insect in the first orchard compared to nine in the check. Clementine yield was not significantly different either for high or medium clementine production. Coccinellid and phytoseid populations were reduced in the check, however, fruits scale populations were increased. The best choice of active ingredients, the reduction of the number of treatments and spray volume favour the protection of natural enemies and the environment. This study will be going on next year (1999).
