Potato virus Y is spread worldwide and is one of the most damaging viruses on tobacco.Because of the importance of PVY on tobacco production in Bulgaria, the coat protein mediated approach is attemped to generate PVY resistant tobacco plants.The transformation of two oriental type tobacco cultivars, the selection of resistant PVY transgenic lines and the levels of resistance are described.
