The impact of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) grazing on the assemblage of aquatic macrophytes in an experimental pond
2000
Pipalova, I. (Akademie Ved, Trebon (Czech Republic). Botanicky Ustav)
Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) stocked (29 kg/ha) in a small fishpond significantly [F(1.176)=16.47, p=10E-4] reduced the biomass of aquatic macrophytes and especially of the filamentous alga Cladophora globulina. Its selective feeding on macrophytes changed the species composition of the assemblages of aquatic vascular plants. Myriophyllum spicatum and Ceratophyllum demersum replaced the initially dominant species Eleocharis acicularis, Potamogeton pusillus and P. pectinatus.
