This publication contains recommendations for apple and pear growers which introduce integrated pest management into orchards. Up-to-date knowledge gained from the research in the protection against animal pests is summarized. Pest status and bionomics of each species is briefly described. The methods of monitoring are described in detail, with particular respect to pheromone and optical traps and temperature models of development. These methods should facilitate detection of pests in orchards and determine the timing and type of control measures. This should decrease the negative effect of currently used zoocides on the environment while keeping a high quality of products. This handbook fulfill requirements of the Guidelines for integrated fruit production in the Czech Republic.
