The use of mobile units with batch drying process for maize kernels drying was investigated in this article. Low purchase price and operational costs enable rapid investment return. The operational parameters of the drier MUF 70 were studied and maize kernels were sampled within each of the cycles of filling, drying, cooling and unloading in order to determine the temperature, moisture content and germinability. The average unit temperature consumption was 2,888 kJ/kg of evaporated water for an average dry matter content of 9.5 %. The mixing of the kernels was correct as the moisture content and temperature values of the maize at the end of drying were homogenous. The best drying performances were reached at the temperature range from 96 to 128 deg C, although this led to a decrease of maize germinability under 10 % as the kernels had been exposed to the heat for about 45 minutes. Nevertheless, such kernels may be sold as high quality animal feed.
