The aim of this study was to measure the quantities of CO2 released during the wet maize storage in CO2 protective atmosphere in sealed containers (400 tons of unit capacity). The maize quality during container unloading was also analyzed. The maize moisture content before loading was 30-35 %. The quality of stored wet maize in sealed containers and CO2 protective atmosphere depends mainly on fermentation quality and on the speed of CO2 generation. The first two days of storage are decisive, the fermentation and CO2 generation must be very rapid. The process must be finished within 10 days. After 11 months of storage, the CO2 concentration has decreased by 9.1 %, i.e. to 69.8 % of CO2. This concentration was sufficient to prevent the development of undesirable microorganisms.
