[Actual situation and perspectives of goat rearing in Slovakia]

Goat milk production in Slovakia is mainly carried out in farms with small herds. Large herds are decreasing in number because of sale problems during the last three years. In 1999 the number of herds was 24, the average milk yield was 445.6 L with 3.5 % of fat and 3 % of proteins for the Alpine breed and 453.3 L with 3.6 % of fat and 2.9 % of proteins for the Saanen breed. The milk is actually processed into several products and from 2000 a certain quantity will be used for the production of dried milk.
