The effect of non-genetic factors on the production and composition of milk was studied in Valachian sheep and their female crosses. The analysis was performed on 16,418 to 16,748 lactations recorded in 32 herds during the years 1995 to 1999. A linear model with fixed effects (SAS-GLM) was used. The effect of associate variables: herd*year*season (HYS), lactation order (LO), genotype (7 genotype groups), way of rearing (number of born lambs*number of reared lambs: NBL*NRL), length of milking period and interval from lambing to the first measurement of milk (INT) were evaluated. All studied parameters, except for INT factor, influenced significantly (P0.001) the milk production, the average daily milk production (583.7 mL) and the production of utilizable dry matter (10.82 kg). The genotype, LO and NBL*NRL influenced also the milk composition.
