The influence of antioxidants on in vitro rooting of sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) microshoots
2000
Vasar, V. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Plant Biotechnological Research Centre)
The effects of antioxidants in the rooting medium was studied on in vitro propagated microcuttings of Prunus avium Estonian cultivars Meelika, Nord and Kristiina in an attempt to stimulate initial root formation and subsequent acclimatization in greenhouse. The antioxidants - reduced glutathione (HSH), dithiothreitol (DTT), propyl gallate or L-ascorbic acid - were added into the MS basal medium containing 9.80 microM IBA at the concentrations 0,2 microM or 0.25 mM. In the presence of ascorbic acid and propyl gallate the rooting percentage, the number of roots per shoot and subsequent acclimatization creased. In contrast, if DTT was added in the rooting medium, the percentage of rooting decreased. The influence of GSH on rooting and acclimatization was insignificant
