Studies on the Na uptake of sugarbeet at various growing sites
2000
Kulcsár,L.
The Na uptake of sugarbeet was studied in a small-plot experiment at two growing sites, on a chernozem brown forest soil in Sopronhorpács and on a calcareous chernozem soil in Mezïhegyes, in 1996 and 1997.It could be concluded from the results that under the climatic and soil conditions of different growing sites the Na uptake of sugarbeet exhibited considerable differences. The specific Na uptake of sugarbeet, averaged over the two years, was 5.6 kg/10 t beet in Sopronhorpács and 32.8 kg/10 t beet in Mezïhegyes. The extent of Na uptake was determined primarily by tha Na-supplying ability of the soil. The Na uptake of sugarbeet was lower in Western Transdanubia (Sopronhorpács) than in the southern part of the Great Plain (Mezïhegyes). The greater Na uptake in Mezïhegyes led to an increase in the Na content of the beets, resulting in a deterioration in their technology quality.
