Replacement of protein sources in fattening pig rations based on the latest technical findings
2001
Babinszky, L.
Various versions of feed formulas were developed using computer software, and also fattening trials were conducted on the replaceability of different protein sources. It was found from the studies that the protein component of animal origin (meat and bone meal, mixed protein meal of animal origin, fish meal, etc.) used in pig rations can be successfully replaced with vegetable protein sources, provided the replacement is made on the basis of the ileal digestible content of feed ingredients and the ideal protein concept. Thus first the digestible energy (DE) content of the ration fed needs to be determined. This should be followed by selecting the appropriate ileal digestible lysine/DE ratio. Finally the ratio between lysine and the other ileal digestible amino acid should be established on the basis of the ideal protein concept.
