1997
Mile, M.Y.
Study on "Change in soil fertiles following conversion natural forest for Industrial Forest Plantation" have been conducted at Muara Dua, North Lampung with the soil classified as ultisol and exisol. Three methods of land dearing (Manual, semi mechanized and full mechanized) were treated in plots size 1 ha for each treatment using Randomized Block Design with three replications. The preliminary result (1 year observation) showed that land clearing using heavy vechicles (tractor, buldozer, etc.) showing effect on the physical and chemical properties of the soil in form of degradation of top soil, compaction of soil by increasing bulk density with significant effect up to 60 cm which may cause decreasing soil porosity and infiltration capacity as well as decreasing nutrients content in the soil. Manual land clearing using control fire showed a positive change in chemical properties of the soil by increasing nutrient content while no change in physical properties
