The effects of the dietary calorie to protein (C:P) ratio on abdominal fat accumulation were examined in female broilers at 3 to 8 weeks of age. One thousand 3-week-old Arbor Acres female broiler chicks were divided into five groups of 200 chicks/each (50 chicks per pen x 4 replicates). Five experimental diets were mash diets that consisted primarily of corn, sorghum, soybean meal, and fish meal. Dietary metabolizable energy (ME) was set at 3,200 kcal/kg and dietary crude protein (CP) was changed from 16.3, 18.1 to 20.6%, respectively. The C:P ratio was calculated to be 196, 177 and 155. In another group, in order to confirm influence of dietary ME level, C:P ratio was set constant at 155 and ME changed from 3,200, 3,100 to 3,007 kcal/kg. Dietary CP/ME of five experimental diets were 16.3%/3,200 kcal/kg, 18.1%/3,200 kcal/kg, 30.6%/3,200 kcal/kg, 20.0%/3,100 kcal/kg, 19.4%/3,007 kcal/kg. Experimental diets were fed to broiler chicks for 5 weeks from 3 to 8 weeks of age, the period which abdominal fat accumulation increase. Body weight gain did not differ among dietary groups. Feed conversion ratio was higher in the 196 C:P ratio and 155 C:P ratio groups, compared to the other groups. The abdominal fat content at 8 weeks of age tended to decrease as C:P ratio became lower, and that for the 155 C:P ratio groups was lower than that for the other groups. Among the groups supplied the 155 C:P ratio diets, the abdominal fat content tended to decrease with decreasing dietary ME. There was negative correlation between the amount of CP per chick consumed during 3 to 8 weeks of age and the abdominal fat content at 8 weeks of age. The carcass yield at 8 weeks of age tended to be higher in chicks supplied the 155 C:P ratio diet. The carcass yield was particularly low in chicks supplied a diet containing 30.6% CP and 3,200 kcal ME/kg
