Demonstration project on rice-duck farming systems was conducted to prove its feasibility and acceptance to farmers. The project was conducted in Leyte [Philippines], as follows: the City of Ormoc (Barangays [villages] Maticaa, Guintuguian, San Jose, Sabang Bao); and the municipalities of Pastrana (Barangay Lanarcan), Alang-alang (Barangay Hingpolon), Tanauan (Barangay Gunauan), Dulag (Barangay San Antonio), and Tabon-tabon (Barangay Capahuan). The demonstration project consisted of training on the package of technology for the farmer cooperators, the NIA's Institution Development Officers/Staff, DA's Agricultural Technicians, and the Provincial and Municipal Agriculturists. Also included in the demonstration strategy was Farmers' Field Day in every demonstration site, to show the benefits, operation and management of the technology, and to create interest among the farmers in the village. In the demonstration sites, the rice-duck farming technology gave an average Marginal Benefit Cost Ratio (MBCR) of 2.02, which means that for every peso that a farmer spent in using the technology, he or she earned P1.02 more than the traditional farmers' practice, that is without the ducks. The farmer cooperators generally appreciated the technology. They had actually observed that ducks pastured in the rice fields had reduced snail infestation; rice yield was increased; and additional income was derived from the sales of eggs and ducklings. Some nonfarmer cooperators in the demonstration sites showed interest in the technology and procured eggs to grow ducks and tried pasturing their ducks in their own rice fields. Others borrowed ducks from the farmer-cooperators and applied the technology in their own farms. Still others signified their willingness to become farmer-cooperators
