Improved F1 seed production of PSB Rc 72 H (Mestizo) with the use of multi-effects triazol (MET)

MET (also called RP333 or Paclobutrazol) is a new type of plant regulator which is said to control the synthesis of inner source gibberellin in plant body and weaken the cell division and elongation. Its effect on seedling establishment on the yield and yield attributes of Mestizo hybrid parentals (IR 58025 A X IR 34686 R) were investigated during the 1999 DS [dry season]. MET treatment was by means of soaking the seeds at 0.2% concentration for 24 hours and/or spraying the seedlings at 1.1 to 2.1 leaf stage at the rate of 2.25 kg/ha in 1500 li of water. Generally, soaking and spraying of MET produced almost similar effects to both parents. With MET treatment, seedling height lowered by 6.6 to 7.4 cm while increment in the number of tillers per plant stem based width number of white roots and total number of roots per plant occurred by 1 to 3.1, 0.08 to 0.14 cm, 4.5 to 6.1 and 11.7 to 14.1, respectively, compared to the control (without MET). The total number of productive panicles per hectare also increased from 0.25 million to 0.56 million. Furthermore, yield of IR 58025 A increased by 581.9 kg/ha and 544.4 kg/ha while yield of IR34686 R increased by 702.6 kg/ha and 758.8 kg/ha with respective MET soaking and spraying
