Effect of different planting methods on various growth and yield parameters of cardinal potatoes in the autumn season in Peshawar [Pakistan]

An experiment on the effect of different planting methods of potatoes on growth and yield of cultivar "Cardinal" was carried out at Agricultural Research Institute, Tarnab, Peshawar during autumn season of 1996. Maximum tuber emergence, plant spread, number of stems per plant, number of tubers per plant and yield per hectare were observed when the tubers were planted on plain soil covered with soil from one side tubers planted on top of the ridge produced the tallest plants, while number of green potatoes and damaged potatoes percentage were higher when the potato tubers were planted in furrows with out ridge.
