Determination of afalotoxin contamination of corn and its locally available packed and unpacked products.

Aflatoxin are toxic fungal metabolites which are common contaminants of a wide variety of food in tropical and subtropical countries. In this study aflatoxin contamination of corn on the cob, dry un-popped corn, popcorns , roasted corns and popcorn balls made with jaggery; was assessed through (modified) Romer method. Aflatoxin contamination was detected in packed popcorn and popcorn-jaggery balls. The level of contamination was higher than the FDA safety limit.
