Results of germplasm evaluation of sire components for crossing in commmercial herds of beef cattle (MARC data) are discussed. Forecast of main goals for Polish beef cattle breeding is given in the perspective of joining EU. Beef production on peasant farms may encompass 1 to 1,5 mln of suckler cows as hybrids in the near future. To make up grading real, by two or three-way crossing, production of 10 000 to 15 000 beef type sires per year is needed. Based on these estimates number of cows kept as breeding stock should increase to 60 000 animals to balance the marker
