Cumulative effects of urea and ammonium sulfate on the third-year corn grown on Pakchong soil

Field plot experiment was conducted on a Pakchong series soil (Reddish Brown Lateritic Group or Oxic Paleustult) at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center to examine cumulative effects of three repetitive annual aplications of urea and ammonium sulfate on corn. The fertilizers had been applied at the rates of 0, 60, 120, 180 and 240 kg N/ha/year. Phosphate fertilizer and zinc chloride were applied as basal fertilizers. Urea and ammonium sulfate produced comparable grain and stubble yields of corn grown in the third year at all rates of application. However, ammonium sulfate produced higher total N-yield than urea at the rate of 120 kg N/ha. At the other rates of N-application, the two fertilizers were comparable in total N-yields.
