Study on taxonomy and ecology of Epiphytic and Lithophytic pteridophytes of Doi Chiang Dao. Amphoe Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai province was conducted between October, 1994 to October, 1997. The exploration aiming at collecting fern specimens are set through each type of ecological surrounding at different altitude. Including in this are the study of herbarium specimens and relevent literature searching and reviewing. The result of this study shown that Doi Chiang Dao offers 84 species in 35 genera 14 Family of pteridophytes in this group. One of this specimens, Cheilanthes argentia (Gmel.) Kunze. (Parkeriaceae) can be classified as the new record of Thailand. Ecological study shown that the epiphytic and lithophytic ferns survive in differnt ecology types such Dry evergreen forest, Mixed deciduous forest, Pine forest, Lower montane rain forest, Oak forest Upper montane rain forest, Grass land, Sub-alpine zone. At present the various ecological types of Doi Chiang Dao were extreamly disturbed from human activities and the fern's flora become decrease and risk for distinction such as Gymnopteris vestita (Hook.) Underw. (Parkeriaceae), Crypsinus hirsutus Tagawa & K. Iwats. (Polypodiaceae). Several rare ferns species once reported still not found in this study (Asplenium humbertii Tard., A. rockii C. Chr. (Aspleniaceae), Cheilanthes pseudoargentia (S.K Wu) K. Iwats. (Parkeriaceae). The main cause of this is the result of Opium' shifting cultivation from Lisu hilltribes and the effect of undisciplined ecotour and ordinary tour groups.
