Experiments on sex reversal of Sunsetplaty (Xiphophorus variatus, Meek, 1904) and indirect all-male production were conducted. The sex reversal of X. variatus was carried out by immersion of 2-3 days old fish in 17 beta-estradiol at the dosages of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 microgram per liter for 15, 30 and 45 days. The results indicated that the hormone concentration and treatment duration on sex ratio were significant. The increase in hormone concentration and treatment duration resulted in the increase of female sex ratio. Hermaphrodites were found in almost all hormone treat groups, with a few fish was found sterile. The average survival rates of all hormone treated groups were significantly lower than the control group (P0.05). The average standard length of fish in all hormone treated group were not significantly difference from the control group. Only one group treated with 50 microgram per liter of 17 beta-estradiol for 30 days had significantly higher average weight than the control group (p0.05). Indirect all-male production of X. variatus by immersion treatment of 2-3 days old fish with 17 beta-estradiol at 100 micrograms per liter for 45 days could produce YY-male. The YY-male produced genetically male offspring with an average of 95.37+-17.97 percent.
