Tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon Fab.) and fish cage culture were widely expanded in Songkhla Lake and adjacent areas. Total tiger shrimp culture areas are 15,694 rais. In Songkhla Lake and coastal zone are 7,852 and 7,841 rais, respectively. Shrimp culture in Songkhla and Phatthalung provinces are 12,569 and 3,124 rais, respectively. Shrimp culture areas in Songkhla Lake almost conducted in conservation area as 5,832 rais and some shrimp farms are in swamp area as 1,391 rais. Total number of fish cage are 4,400 cages, Songkhla Lake as 4,050 cages and adjacent area are 350 cages. Seabass (Lates calcalifer Bloch) is the most popular fish culture which are about 90 percent, Red Tilapia (Tilapia nilotica) about 9 percent and Grouper (Epinepherus spp.) about 1 percent. Rather bad water qualities occurred in Thale Luang (ST1-ST3) due to eutrophication phenomenal. Chlorophyll a was found in rainy and summer seasons in range of 36.79-49.07 and 27.58-43.31 mg/cubic m, respectively. The situation of the others area are in normal criterion, except in the mouth of U-Taphao(ST10) and Pawong(ST12) canals which nitrite, nitrate, total ammonia and orthophosphate concentration were higher than the other area.
