This study was undertaken on grafted-potted sapling of walnut planted at fall season in 1997 and spring in 1998 in Erzincan conditions. The sapling planted at fall season needed extra expense due to protecting cover. When it was not protected, 55.42% average frost damage occured in apical bud and shoots of the plant. Stalk as protecting cover was significantly less effective than Izocam, straw, dry leaves. There were no significant differences at shoot length and diameter development between planting time. There were significant differences at occuring lateral shoots between protected plants and unprotected plants. According to experimental result, it can be said that walnut sapling should planted, on spring in Erzincan and having some ecological conditions
