In this investigation, it was aimed that different mahaleb (P. mahaleb L.) types could been identified by the phenolic substances in their leaves. Thin layer chromatographic (TLC) method was used to evaluate the phenolics qualitatively in leaves. The investigation of the choromatograms, some differences were found in terms of distribution of the spots belonged to phenolic substances. The number of spots belonged to flavonoids were generally higher than the other phenolics in all types. In the chromatograms of Afyon type, higher flavonoid contents were determined. Some specific spots belonged to yellow mahaleb type were detected. The spots of phenylpropane compounds were determined in only some mahaleb types. Some differences in the spot size and color intensity of phenolics (concentration differences) were also found in some types. It was determined that there were some differences among mahaleb types in terms of phenolic contents as a result of analysis by HPLC
