[Complex structure of knobs and centromeric sites in maize chromosomes]

Reduction in the complexity of the maize genom by means of introgression of some chromosomes into the oats genom allowed to isolate and analyse separate sites of chromosomes' swelling and centromeres. These sites are found to be extremely difficult to analyse and isolate as they consist of a number of reiterative elements and are present in all of the maize chromosomes or in some of them. The system of the lines obtained by means of interspecific crossing of the maize and oats provided an opportunity to comparatively analyse the centromeric sites, swellings and other common elements that exist in different maize chromosomes. Revealing the diffused distribution of the retrotranspozone elements among the blocks of the connected reiterations in the maize and some other organisms testifies that this special feature may serve as the basis for the heterochromatine organization of eucaryotes
