An in sacco study was carried out to determine rumen degradability of maize stover as affected by different treatment techniques (sun-dried, silage-made, 4 percent urea-treated, and 5 percent urea-treated) and also effects of partial replacement of green grass in a cattle diet with these types of maize stover on the degradation efficiency by rumen ecosystem. It was found that 4 percent and 5 percent urea-treated maize stovers had better degradabilities than sun-dried and silage-made stovers. The efficiency of fibre degradation by rumen microbes in terms of degradation characteristics of hay as a standard fibre substrate was better when 50 percent green grass in a positive diet was replaced with the urea-treated stovers than with the sun-dried or silage-made stover. Replacement with the urea-treated stovers gave as nearly good results as compared with the positive control diet. No significant difference in the observed parameters was detected between 4 percent and 5 percent urea-treatments. It was therefore suggested that 4 percent urea-treated maize stover can be used to replace 50 percent of green grass in a cattle diet
