Regional geochemical investigations and the environment [Serbia, Yugoslavia]
2000
Jovic, V. (Rudarsko-geoloski fakultet, Beograd (Yugoslavia)) | Radosevic, B. ("Advanced Systems", Beograd (Yugoslavia))
Geologic composition of Serbia (Yugoslavia) is highly diverse - rocks of various age (from Precambrian to Quaternary) and different chemical composition are represented. Since these rocks occupy different surfaces, knowledge of regional distribution of bioessential and toxic elements in rocks is especially important, because these rocks are the bedrocks for soils. Problems related to the chemical elements can evolve due to their high concentrations (contamination) as well as due to their low concentrations (deficiency). Geochemical investigations in Serbia (Yugoslavia) are nonsystematical and partial, so that the knowledge about their regional distribution is inadequate. Through the example of selenium and magnesium, significance of regional knowledge of the content of chemical elements in the environment will be shown.
