In the period of 1996-1998 composition and distribution research of fauna of fish was executet in the along profile of the river Vardar in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. In total 24 species of fish from 6 families are stated. The most of the kinds belong to Cyprinidae family. The number of species was between 2-25 at the locations of research. For 3 species (Pseudorasbora parva, Perce fluviatilis and Phoxinus phoxinus) it can be stated that are allochthonous for the river Vardar. The increased diversity of ichthyofauna is characteristic for the localities conditions regarding the profiles which are directly under the effluent influence. The species with increased distribution have the most numerous population. The number of the fish decrease rapidly on the location that are behind the river mouth. In the alongside profile of the river the number of the Ichthyofauna population was from 27 to 560 individuals. On the basis of the research we can conclude the increase of qualitative-quantitative composition of Ichthyofauna on the sites down the flow of Vardar and specially on those which are under the influence of pollution.
