Annual changes of microelement distribution in sediments of the "Barje" (Leskovac, southern Serbia, Yugoslavia) water reservoir were determined by means of sequential extraction, in order to assess their mobility under various environmental conditions. There are strong reasons to believe that the warming of water, that occurs in spring, leads to physical and chemical changes (decrease of pH and redox-potential), which increase the mobility of iron and manganese (hydr)oxides, but also of the associated microelements (especially Ni and Pb). This could lead to their temporary increase, i.e., contamination of the accumulated water, especially in deeper layers, which might affect the overall quality of the exploited water.
