The objective of this study was to determine the mode of inheritance of the resistance to race 0 and rece 1 of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato in lines LCH 50 and LCHG 177, as well as to assay whether the gene in this line is allelic to gene Pto in Canadian line ONT 7710. Progenies from the crosses Ideal x LCH 50, Ace x LCH 50; Ideal x LCHG 177 and Ace x LCHG 177 were inoculated with race 0 and race 1 of P. syringae pv. tomato by vacuum infiltration. The genetic analysis showed that the resistance to race 0 and race 1 of P. syringae pv. tomato in the studied lines was inherited completely dominantly and controlled by a single dominant gene. The test of allelism between Canadian line ONT 7710 and line LCH 50 showed that the resistance of the latter is the same as reported for ONT 7710. The test of allelism between ONT 7710 and line LCHG 177 revealed that the resistance in this line is not due to Pto but to a different gene. The data imply the presence of a novel gene for resistance of tomato to race 1 of P. syringae pv. tomato.
