Two translocation barley lines in which reconstructed chromosome 6 degree 7 has two NORs resided on its opposite arms were studied in relation to the ribosomal gene expression.Cytological evidence indicates the reduction of the expression of the translocated NOR.A deletion barley line missing NOR from chromosome 6 (6H) and showing an enhanced activity of NOR from chromosome 7 (5H) was also investigated.Pattern and degree of cytosine methylation of rRNA genes has been studied in these lines. The data suggested the limited role of DNA methylation for regulation of the differential ribosomal gene expression. In contrast, in deletion line the increased activity of ribosomal genes on chromosome 7 (5H), correlated with change in their methylation pattern.
