Adaptation of current silage towers Vitkovice for grain crops treatment and storage
2001
Kroupa, P. (Vyzkumny Ustav Zemedelske Techniky, Prague (Czech Republic))
The aim of this study was to evaluate the ventilation of grain crops stored in tower silos (750 tons of capacity, Vitkovice type). Medium-pressure fans (2 aerating fans for each tower) were used in order to provide 20 cube m of air per 1 ton of stored grain within 1 hour. The highest attention was paid to the principal parameter - the output air speed. The average air output speed from the stored grain layer along the tower perimeter is 0.101 m/s, the average air output speed in the tower centre, i.e. on the top of the pouring conus (1.8 m high), is 0.027 m/s. These values are sufficient to avoid grain deterioration.
